TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN, SIKAP DAN TINDAKAN MAHASISWA PROGRAM STUDI PENDIDIKAN DOKTER DI PALEMBANG TERHADAP THALASSEMIA
Background: Thalassemia is a hereditary blood disorder in which a genetic mutation occurs which causes reduced or absent globin chains in the hemoglobin of red blood cells. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health in 2019, Indonesia is estimated to have 3.8% carriers of the thalassemia gene and there are around 1500 new cases every year. As the number of thalassemia patients increases, it is hoped that the knowledge, attitudes and practices of medical students will also increase. The role of students is to educate the public about thalassemia prevention. This study aims to determine the level of knowledge, attitudes and practices of medical students in Palembang towards thalassemia. Methods: This type of research was a descriptive observational with a cross-sectional design. Collecting data was carried out using a questionnaire distributed to medical students in Palembang that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research sample size obtained was 293 people with a stratified random sampling technique. Results: The results of this study showed that 253 students (86.3%) had good knowledge of thalassemia. A total of 288 students (98.3%) had a positive attitude towards thalassemia. Then as many as 236 students (80.5%) had good practices towards thalassemia. Conclusion: Medical Student in Palembang have a good level of knowledge, positive attitudes and good practices towards Thalassemia.
