PRODUKSI GAS HIDROGEN MELALUI ELEKTROLISIS AIR BERBASIS MEMBRANE ELECTRODE ASSEMBLY DENGAN DAN TANPA MPL MENGGUNAKAN KATALIS Cu2O/C DAN MEMBRAN NAFION-117
The Hydrogen Gas Production through Water Electrolysis Based on Membrane Electrode Assembly with and without MPL using Cu2O/C Catalyst and Nafion-117 Membrane has been conducted. The water electrolysis process was carried out using Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) with and without MPL coated with Cu2O/C catalyst on both the cathode and anode sides. Electrodes were fabricated by distributing the catalyst along the Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL) surface (for MEA with MPL), while for MEA without MPL, the catalyst was distributed directly on the carbon paper surface. Preparation of MEA with and without MPL was conducted to investigate the influence of MPL usage on the hydrogen production rate. The produced electrodes were characterized using Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The Electrochemical Surface Area (ECSA) values of the electrodes with and without MPL were 5.72 m2/g and 326 m2/g respectively. The electrical conductivity values of the electrodes with and without MPL were 1.74 ×10-2 S/cm and 1.59 ×10-2 S/cm respectively. Water electrolysis was performed using an electrolysis cell containing MEA with a size of 49 cm2 at currents of 0.5; 1; 1.5; 2; 2.5; and 3 A. Water electrolysis using MEA with MPL resulted in a hydrogen production rate of 2.6978 mL/s at 3 A, whereas MEA without MPL produced a hydrogen production rate of 2.1367 mL/s at 2 A.
