CORRELATION OF ABDOMINAL CIRCUMFERENCE WITH BLOOD SUGAR PROFILE IN FACULTY OF MEDICINE, UNIVERSITY OF SRIWIJAYA STUDENTS BATCH 2020—2022 (Justian Ananda Putra, 11 Desember 2023, 103 pages) Faculty of Medicine Sriwijaya University Background : Effective screening is essential to prevent prediabetes progression into diabetes mellitus. The measurement of waist circumference is considered a critical risk factor in detecting central obesity and its associated risks, including diabetes mellitus. This study aims for the correlation between abdominal circumference and blood sugar profile, while controlling for the level of physical activity among students of the Faculty of Medicine at Sriwijaya University of 2020—2022. Methods: This study is an observational analytic method with a cross-sectional study design. Primary data originates from abdominal circumference measurements, blood sugar profile assessments, and evaluations of physical activity levels using the IPAQ-SF questionnaire. Data is processed using the Spearman's rank method and partial correlation analysis. Results: The majority of respondents are female, comprising 57,4% out of a total of 61 respondents. The average age of the respondents is 20,09 years and 32,8% are classified as central obese. Additionally, 57,4% of the respondents are prediabetes. Regarding physical activity levels, 22,9% exhibit low physical activity, 44,2% display moderate physical activity, and 32,8% demonstrate high physical activity. The bivariate data analysis using Spearman's rank method indicates a weak positive correlation (ρ = 0,185) that is not statistically significant (p-value = 0,154) between abdominal circumference and blood sugar profile. Similarly, the partial correlation analysis using the partial correlation test reveals a weak positive correlation (partial correlation coefficient of 0,180) that is not statistically significant (p-value = 0,168). Conclusion: There is no correlation found between abdominal circumference and blood sugar profile when controlling for physical activity levels among students of the Faculty of Medicine at Sriwijaya University from the 2020—2022. Keywords: Abdominal Circumference, Fasting Glucose, Prediabetes, Obesity.
