KEMAMPUAN COMPUTATIONAL THINKING SISWA KELAS VII DALAM MENYELESAIKAN MASALAH PADA MATERI PERSAMAAN LINEAR SATU VARIABEL
Computational thinking abilities are essential for students’ in the 21st century to balance education with existing progress. Based on this, research aimed to describe the computational thinking abilities of class VII students’ in solving problems on one-variable linear equations and to see how the teacher's learning affected students’ computational thinking abilities. This research is a descriptive type with a qualitative approach with research subjects, namely 32 students’ of class VII.11 SMPN 10 Palembang. The data collection techniques used are observation, written tests, and interviews, which contain four indicators of computational thinking, including (1) decomposition, (2) pattern recognition, (3) abstraction, and (4) algorithms. The results of data analysis from this research show that students’ computational thinking abilities are in the medium category, with an average of 28.5. Students’ in the high category can come up with all indicators, students’ in the medium category can come up with two to three indicators, and students’ in the low category can only come up with one indicator. The dominant indicators that emerged were abstraction, with an average of 36.8, and algorithms, with an average of 31.6. Meanwhile, the indicators that appear the least are pattern recognition, with an average of 26.7, and decomposition, with an average of 18.8. Apart from that, the learning carried out by teachers using the lecture method and being teacher-centered indicates a connection with students’ computational thinking abilities in solving problems seen in the abstraction and algorithm aspects.
