This research is entitled the Development of the Indonesia Ulama Council in South Sumatera Province during the K.H.O. Gadjahnata period 1990-1995 Contribution to the Course on Developing Local History Research. The problems discussed in this research is the development of the MUI in South Sumatra Province, introduce who K.H.O. Gadjahnata is and what the role and challenges of Gadjahnata were in the progress of Islam in South Sumatra in 1990-1995. The purpose of this research is to understand the development of the MUI in South Sumatra Province, introduce who K.H.O. Gadjahnata is and what the role and challenges of Gadjahnata were in the progress of Islam in South Sumatra in 1990-1995. The research method used in this research is the historical method. There are several steps in the historical method used in this research, namely heuristics, source criticism, data interpretation, historiography, religious and sociological approaches. The results of the research show that in general the MUI was formed by the New Order government to reduce group conflict and create harmony and cooperation in relations between Muslims and the state. Next in this thesis we will discuss the progress and obstacles of K.H.O. Gadjahnata and the development of the MUI in South Sumatra.
