Background. Geriatric patients refer to individuals in the elderly age group with specific characteristics such as multipathology and declining cognitive abilities. As one ages, degenerative processes occur, leading the elderly to be more susceptible to degenerative and infectious diseases. This situation accentuates the crucial role of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in hospitals. This study aims to elucidate the characteristics of geriatric patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital. Method. This study is an observational descriptive research with a cross-sectional design utilizing secondary data from medical records of geriatric patients admitted to the ICU at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital in 2022, meeting specific inclusion and exclusion criteria through total sampling technique. Results. The study encompassed 102 samples of geriatric patients admitted to the ICU at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital in 2022. The majority belonged to the age group of 60 – 74 years (79.4%), predominantly male (54.9%), with medical admissions (52.9%). The most prevalent comorbid conditions were hypertension (27.5%), tumors (27.5%), and cerebrovascular diseases (19.6%). On average, patients were hospitalized for 8.4 days, with a mean severity level measured by a SOFA score of 4, and the majority of patients survived (65.7%). Conclusion. Geriatric patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Hospital in 2022 were predominantly aged between 60 – 74 years, male, medically admitted, with comorbidities such as hypertension, tumors, and cerebrovascular diseases. On average, they were hospitalized for 8.4 days with a SOFA score of 4, and the majority of patients survived. Keywords. Characteristics. Geriatric Patients. Intensive Care Unit.
