Background: Geriatrics is a branch of medical science that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of elderly patients. The population of elderly individuals increases every year, leading to a rise in the number of geriatric patients requiring healthcare, including anesthesia services. The presence of cognitive impairments and low quality of life increases the risk of postoperative mortality in geriatric patients. Therefore, preoperative screening of cognitive function and quality of life becomes crucial. This study aims to understand the characteristics of MMSE scores and WHOQoL scores in geriatric patients before undergoing anesthesia procedures at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. Methods: This study used an descriptive observational method conducted by collecting secondary data from patient medical records of geriatric patients scheduled for anesthesia procedures at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital Palembang. Results: The obtained sample consists of 66 patients, with the average age of 70.98 years, a weight of 59.79 kg, and a height of 161.35 cm. The majority of patients were male (65.4%), had a normal BMI (71.2%), had mild comorbidities (48.5%) or no comorbidities (48.5%), and were classified as ASA II (100%). Most underwent urological surgery (33.3%) and received general anesthesia (48.5%). Based on cognitive and quality of life assessments, the majority of patients had normal cognitive function (66.7%) and poor quality of life (89.4%). Conclusion: In this study, geriatric patients scheduled for anesthesia had an average age of 70.98 years, a weight of 59.79 kg, and a height of 161.35 cm. The majority were male, had a normal BMI, had mild or no comorbidities, were classified as ASA II, underwent urological surgery, and received general anesthesia. Most patients had normal cognitive function and poor quality of life based on cognitive and quality of life assessments.
