EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK BUNGA PEPAYA Carica papaya L. DALAM MENGHAMBAT PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Staphylococcus aureus
Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common bacterial infections in humans and is the causative agent of many human infections including bacteremia and sepsis. The use of antibiotics is a way of management, but excessive use can increase resistance. This study aims to see the effectiveness of antibacterial growth of ethanol extract of Carica papaya L. flowers on the inhibition of S.aureus ATCC 29213. This research is an in-vitro laboratory experimental research with Mann-Whitney Test. The research sample was divided into 5 groups, namely extra flowers of Carica papaya L 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and positive control (clindamycin 2 μg). Testing was carried out by disc diffusion method (Kirby-B bauer) and phytochemical screening. The results of bacterial inhibition zone diameter were analyzed using SPSS version 22.The results showed that the ethanol extract of papaya flowers (Carica papaya L.) at a concentration of 8% had the largest mean diameter of the inhibition zone value of 2.24, but the results given were much lower than the positive control (Klindamycin).Ethanol extract of papaya flower (Carica papaya L) has activity in inhibiting the antibacterial growth of Staphylococcus aures, but not comparable to the positive control (Klindamycin). Keyword: Carica papaya L Flower Extract, Staphylococcus aureus, bacterial inhibition zone
