HUBUNGAN ANTARA INDEKS ADIPOSITAS DAN TEKANAN DARAH PADA MAHASISWA UNIVERISTAS SRIWIJAYA
Background: Excessive adiposity as one of the risk factors for increased blood pressure has become a major health issue worldwide. Several indices describing adiposity have been developed as predictors of elevated blood pressure. This study aims to determine the relationship between adiposity indices and blood pressure among students at Sriwijaya University. Methods: This research is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 413 students from the University of Sriwijaya aged 18–25 years (89 males and 324 females), selected using multistage random sampling technique. Primary data were collected, including blood pressure and anthropometric measurements. The obtained anthropometric measurements were used to calculate the examined variables, namely BMI, WHR, WHtR, body fat percentage, and TESfR. Chi-square and logistic regression tests were used to examine the relationship between obesity indices and blood pressure. Results: Cases of underweight, overweight, obesity, and blood pressure above normal were identified in 20.34%, 16.95%, 7.26%, and 25.91% of subjects, respectively. Higher values were found in males compared to females for almost all the adiposity indices examined. This is consistent with the prevalence of above normal blood pressure, which is also higher in males compared to females (51.69% and 18.83%, p
