Background: Self-harm, or the act of injuring oneself, is an action carried out as a coping mechanism to overcome emotional stress or pain by hurting and harming oneself, without any intention of ending one's life. Medical students face high academic pressure with dense study loads and tight time demands. Apart from facing academic conditions, medical students have demands to face the future of becoming a doctor. Self-exploration during the transition period at student age does not always correlate positively with planned expectations, so they often punish themselves. This research aims to find out and describe the factors that contribute to self-harm behavior in medical students in 2020. Method: This type of research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach using Deep Interview techniques. The sample in this study consisted of nine people using the Purposive Sampling technique. Results: Nine informants stated that Self-Harm occurs due to a variety of factors that provide mutual support and accumulate as psychological pain. The informants have tried to find coping to regulate their emotions, some have succeeded in reducing negative feelings, and several other informants maintained thein self-harm actions. Conclusion: There is a link between Self-Harm actions and childhood trauma, academic demands, social relationships such as friends and lovers, and poor self regulation in Sriwijaya University medical students Class of 2020.
