Background. Striae are linear lesions on the athropic skin that are formed as a result of mechanical stretching on the skin. The prevalence of striae reaches 50–90% with risk factors such as sex, body mass index (BMI), weight changes, family history, long-term history of topical corticosteroids, and diet. This study aimed to find out the characteristics and risk factors of striae and also the level of knowledge of striae in the Medical Doctor Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine of Sriwijaya University. Method. This type of study was observational analytic with a cross-sectional study design that used primary data such as questionnaires and physical examinations. Samples of this study are students in the Medical Doctor Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine of Sriwijaya University, who met the inclusion criteria. The data was processed and analyzed by univariate, bivariate, and multivariate. Result. The sample size that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria was 162 samples, with an incidence of striae was 55.6% and femoral regio as the predilection of striae. There is no significant correlation between striae and sex (p=0.349), a history of long-term use of corticosteroids (p=0.511), and history of junk food frequency consumption (p=0.562). Significant correlation was found between striae with excessive BMI (p=0.001; OR=7.718), weight gains (p=0.000; OR=7.009), weight loss (p=0.000; OR=7.068), and family history (p=0.001; OR=3.661). The majority level of knowledge was moderate (47.5%). Conclusion. The incidence of striae in this study was 55.6%, with moderate as the majority level of knowledge. Significant correlation was found between striae with excessive BMI, weight changes, and family history. Keywords. Incidence, risk factors, striae, stretch marks, level of knowledge
