HUBUNGAN KADAR ALBUMIN SERUM DAN DERAJAT VARISES ESOFAGUS PADA PASIEN SIROSIS HEPATIS YANG DIRAWAT DI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOESIN PALEMBANG
Background: Esophageal varices is the most life-threatening complication of portal hypertension in hepatic cirrhosis patients. Around 80% of cirrhosis patients will eventually experience this complication. Non-invasive parameters are needed for early detection of the degree of esophageal varices so that patients with severe varices can be immediately referred for endoscopic examination. In addition, during repeated endoscopic examinations, patients are prone to feeling uncomfortable and require high costs. Another parameter in the form of serum albumin levels is considered to predict the degree of esophageal varices. The aim of this study was to determine whether there was a relationship between serum albumin levels and the degree of esophageal varices in patients with liver cirrhosis treated at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: This study was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design. This study used secondary data in the form of patient medical records containing gender, age, serum albumin levels, and degree of esophageal varices from hepatic cirrhosis patients with a diagnosis of esophageal varices who were treated at the Inpatient Unit of RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang for the period of January 2021 – October 2023 and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed with the Chi Square test using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 27 program. Results: In this study, there were 72 samples that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Based on the results of univariate analysis, it was found that the majority of the sample was male (73.6%) and aged 50 – 59 years (29.2%). The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between serum albumin levels and the degree of esophageal varices (p value = 0.023). Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between serum albumin levels and the degree of esophageal varices in patients with hepatic cirrhosis at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Keywords: Serum Albumin, Esophageal Varices, Hepatic Cirrhosis
