Background. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) stands as a significant global public health concern characterized by a decline in glomerular filtration rate (GFR) below 90 mL/min/1.73 m2 and kidney impairment lasting more than 3 months. The prevalence and frequency of CKD continue to rise annually. Globally, this disease affects an average of 9 in 1 million children per age group. Sleep disorders constitute a serious issue impacting a child's quality of life. The prevalence of sleep disorders among children in Indonesia is notably high, with adverse effects on behavior, school performance, and overall quality of life. This study aims to explore the correlation between the severity of CKD in children and sleep disorders. Methods. The research was conducted at Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang General Hospital from September to October 2023. Included in the study were 35 samples meeting the inclusion criteria, that were pediatric chronic kidney disease patients aged 2-18 years. Sampling was carried out using a total sampling technique. The data was then analyzed utilizing IBM SPSS V27 through descriptive analysis and Chi-Square test. Results. The majority of pediatric CKD patients fall within the age range of 11-18 years (74.2%), are male (57.1%), and are categorized under stage V CKD (57.1%). Sleep disorders were found in 37.1% of pediatric CKD patients. The research findings did not establish a correlation between the severity of CKD in children and certain sleep disorders. Neither did it reveal associations with specific sleep disorders like difficulty initiating and maintaining sleep, altered consciousness, sleep-wake transition disorders, or excessive sweating during sleep. However, there was a correlation between the severity of CKD in children and sleep-breathing disorder (p=0.04) as well as excessive somnolence (p=0.036). Conclusion. There is a correlation between the severity of CKD and sleep disorders type sleep breathing disorder and excessive somnolence among children with CKD at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang.
