ANALISIS KARAKTERISTIK FISIS TANAH LEMPUNG DENGAN PERBAIKAN TANAH MENGGUNAKAN METODE VACUUM CONSOLIDATION.
The Palembang - Indralaya Toll Road section, when viewed based on its geological structure, consists of silty clay soil. Under loading, this soil experiences significant settlement due to its low bearing capacity. To prevent excessive settlement before and after construction activities, soil improvement is necessary. The vacuum consolidation method is one such method for soil improvement, which involves using a vacuum pump instead of soil embankments (preloading) connected to Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVD) in the area to be treated. This study uses clay soil samples taken from the vicinity of the Palembang - Indralaya Toll Road shoulder. The research is conducted in a laboratory setting to identify changes in the physical and morphological properties of the clay soil substrate before and after the application of a specific vacuum consolidation procedure. The results of the soil's physical characteristic tests show an increase in the clay soil's physical characteristics after the vacuum consolidation method, resulting in denser soil and tighter soil particles supported by the soil's morphology as observed in the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) test results.
