KARAKTERISTIK KUAT GESER TANAH GAMBUT DI DAERAH OGAN KOMERING ILIR.
Peat soil exhibits distinct characteristics compared to clay soil. Physically, it is recognized as soil with high organic content, a very high water content, large pore size, and the presence of fibers. Technically, it has very high compression and very low shear strength. To determine the shear strength values of this peat soil, two tests were conducted: in-situ shear strength testing using a vane shear apparatus and laboratory shear strength testing using the unconsolidated undrained triaxial test. The study utilized undisturbed peat soil samples collected from the Ogan Komering Ilir region. The objective of these tests was to compare the shear strength values obtained from field and laboratory tests. Shear strength testing was carried out at five different soil locations. Additionally, the study examined the physical properties of peat soil for its subsequent classification. The classification results revealed that the peat soil in the Ogan Komering Ilir region is classified as amorphous peat for three locations and fibrous peat for two locations. Furthermore, the shear strength test results indicated that the shear strength values obtained from the vane shear test were greater than those from the triaxial unconsolidated undrained test. Key Words: Shear Strength, Peat, Vane shear, Triaxial Unconsolidated Undrained
