PENGARUH MEDIA QUENCHING TERHADAP LAJU KOROSI PADA BAJA AISI 1045
Each heat treatment process on steel will experience a change in the structure of the material which will open the corrosion gap. Corrosion is a major problem that often occurs, some of the damage that occurs to metals is caused by the environment in which the metal is exposed. Damage due to this corrosion if left too long will cause damage which will cause a decrease in the efficiency of its use. One of the steps to prevent the corrosion rate of a metal is to do heat treatment and one of them is the quenching process with a certain cooling medium. This research is an experimental study with the aim of knowing the corrosion rate that occurs in AISI 1045 steel with quenching media and without treatment, which is the most effective in slowing down the corrosion process. The heat treatment process and the quenching process that are carried out affect the corrosion rate, some of the weight of the specimen after heat treatment changes. Specimen 6 is 7.39 g to 7.30 g. Then after the quenching process, specimens that were given HCL cooling media (Specimen 6) had a greater weight reduction compared to other specimens, namely 0.15 g with a percentage of damage of 2.03%. While the untreated specimens had a smaller weight reduction of 0.02 g with a percentage of damage of 0.26%, but the corrosion rate was visually yellow in color evenly on the specimens. Then the specimen that has the smallest weight reduction by treatment is with coconut milk cooling medium (Specimen 3) is 0.04 g with a percentage of damage of 0.56%.
