ANALISIS PERILAKU MEMBUANG SAMPAH MASYARAKAT DI BANTARAN SUNGAI MUSI BERDASARKAN KARAKTERISTIK FISIK MIKROPLASTIK DI KOTA PALEMBANG
The Musi River is one of the rivers that have the potential to be contaminated with microplastics, which originates from the behavior of people who still throw rubbish into the river. The research aims to determine the behavior of disposing of community waste on the banks of the Musi River based on the physical characteristics of microplastics in Palembang City. This research uses a qualitative research design with a descriptive-analytical research design using indepth interviews with 11 informants analyzing water samples using the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) method and identifying microplastics using a trinocular microscope. The research results show that people are aware of the dangers of throwing rubbish into rivers, but some people take an attitude of not caring about it, such as throwing domestic waste, for example, inorganic and organic waste. Actions taken by sanitarian officers involve providing education and direct practice about the dangers of throwing rubbish into rivers. In the waters of the Musi River, there are 5 types of microplastics consisting of 26 fiber particles, 10 fragments, 6 foam particles, 2 pellets, and 6 film particles. The largest size of microplastic was found in the Ogan River at 3048.95 µm with the type of microplastic found being fiber. The most common color of microplastic found was brown with 26 particles. The research concludes that human activities that throw rubbish carelessly into the waters are one of the causes of the presence of microplastics, people who don't know about alternatives for proper waste management only end up burning it, dumping it on the ground, TPS, and throwing it into rivers/sea. From this research, it is hoped that people will change their behavior from the habit of throwing rubbish into rivers to avoid the impact of waterborne diseases.
