ANALISIS HUBUNGAN FAKTOR RISIKO PAJANAN PESTISIDA DENGAN KEJADIAN BERAT BADAN LAHIR RENDAH DI KECAMATAN LOSARI KABUPATEN BREBES
Pesticide has been widely used in Indonesia. Exposure to pesticides may affect fetal growth, which leads to low birth weight. This study aimed to determine the association between risk factors for pesticide exposure and LBW incidence. This study used a case-control quantitative method and was conducted from April to May 2023 in Losari District, Brebes Regency. The study population was all the live births in the last 2 years. The subjects were divided into two groups: 57 babies born with LBW and 57 babies born with normal birth weight, which were selected by purposive random sampling. The data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate (Chi-square test), and multivariate (multiple logistic regression test). There was a significant association between the mother’s activities related to pesticides (p=0.0001), pesticide exposure intensity (p=0.015), pesticide storage (p=0.0001), use of PPE (p=0.003), the distance between the house and agricultural land (p=0.007), and gestational age (p=0.002) with LBW incidence. There was no association between maternal age during pregnancy, parity, the mother’s nutritional status during pregnancy, gestational interval, cigarette smoke exposure, or the use of household pesticides with the LBW incidence. The results of multivariate analysis showed that there was a significant association between the use of PPE and LBW incidence after controlling the mother’s nutritional status during pregnancy, cigarette smoke exposure, and the use of household pesticides. The study concluded that pesticide exposure during pregnancy is the risk factor for LBW incidence in Losari District, Brebes Regency.
