Hypertension is one of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) that is often dubbed "silent killer". One of the risk factors of hypertension is smoking. This study aimed to analyze the determinants of hypertension occurrence in male active smokers aged 30-45 years in the work area of OPI Public Health Center (PHC) Palembang in 2023, which were consisted of smoking habits, smoking duration, number of cigarettes per day, and type of cigarettes. This study was done in June until July 2023. This study used cross-sectional study design and purposive sampling technique with samples were male residents aged 30-45 years who smoked in the work area of OPI PHC Palembang in 2023 in the amount of 80 samples. Data analysis in this study consisted of univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using chi-square test and fisher's exact test. The results of bivariate analysis showed that there was correlation between smoking duration (p-value= 0,011) with hypertension occurrence and there were no correlations between smoking habits (p-value=0.191), number of cigarettes per day (p-value=0.767), and type of cigarettes (p-value=1,000) with hypertension occurrence in male active smokers aged 30-45 years in the work area of OPI PHC Palembang in 2023. It could be concluded that only smoking duration was correlated to hypertension occurrence in male active smokers aged 30-45 years in the work area of OPI PHC Palembang in 2023. Advice for the public, especially people who work as laborers and also have a smoking habit, to divert the desire to smoke by talking, doing light exercise, such as playing chess or singing together when gathering with friends, consuming fruit after eating, reading newspaper, magazine, or interesting positive articles on the internet when relaxing or waiting for someone to arrive.
