HEALTH PROMOTION MASTER STUDY PROGRAM (S2) PUBLIC HEALTH SCIENCES FACULTY OF PUBLIC HEALTH SRIWIJAYA UNIVERSITY Scientific writing in the form of a thesis, July 2023 Nolly Julfery: Supervised by Nur Alam Fajar and Chairil Anwar The Relationship between Exclusive Breastfeeding in Toddlers and the Incidence of Stunting at the Base Health Center of Fifty City Regency. xx + 140 pages, 31 tables, 4 charts and 11 appendices. ABSTRACT Stunting is one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets which is included in the 2nd sustainable development goal, namely ending hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition, and launching sustainable agriculture. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in the Pangkalan Health Center of Fifty City Regency. This study use an analytical observational and descriptive analytic study with a cross sectional study design. Bivariate data analysis using chi square test and multivariate confounding test using logical regression. Samples was 88 mothers who had stunting toddler aged 12-60 months in the working area of the primary health center with purposive sampling. The results of this study showed that there was a relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in the Base Health Center, p-value 0.008 (95% CI: 1.625-109.384) while there was no relationship between the age of toddlers (p value 1.135), gender (p value 1.506), knowledge (p value 0.798), education (p value 0.168), employment (p value 1.504), income (p value 0.563) with the incidence of stunting. There is a relationship between maternal health in toddlers (p value 0.047) and the incidence of stunting. Multivariate results show that the variable that is a significant risk factor for stunting is maternal education. Toddlers who received exclusive non-exclusive breastfeeding had an 18,990 times greater risk of stunting (95% CI: 2,165-166,559) compared to toddlers who received exclusive exclusive breastfeeding after controlling for maternal education variables. The existence of a significant relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in the base health center and maternal education is a variable that affects the incidence of stunting. With these results, it is expected that all Puskesmas parties and communities who have stunted toddlers will synergize with each other to improve the nutritional status of toddlers starting from increasing insight or knowledge of the importance of good exclusive breastfeeding in order to reduce the risk of stunting. Keywords: toddler, exclusive breastfeeding, stunting
