PENGARUH BALANCED OCCLUSION TERHADAP FUNGSI MASTIKASI GIGI TIRUAN LENGKAP (LITERATURE REVIEW)
Background: Complete denture was one of the most popular choices for fully edentulous patients. The occlusal scheme recommendation for a complete denture was balanced occlusion because it was favorable for denture stability. Anatomic teeth are used to arrange teeth in a balanced occlusion; therefore, they should be used for patients with normal alveolar ridge height. Objective: The literature aimed to determine the effect of balanced occlusion in the case of complete dentures on masticatory function. Methods: Literature was selected from PubMed, Wiley Online Library, and Science Direct from the past 15 years. Results: This literature review type of studies were randomized controlled trials (RCT). 10 articles were chosen to be reviewed due to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Seven of them are about masticatory function and three of them are about the stability of balanced occlusion. Conclusion: Balanced occlusion had no impact on masticatory function in the case of complete denture patients with normal ridges and no parafunctional habits
