EFEKTIVITAS EKSTRAK BINAHONG (ANREDERA CORDIFOLIA) TERHADAP ZONA HAMBAT BAKTERI PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA
Background: Binahong (Anredera cordifolia) is a herbal plant endemic in Indonesia. Binahong is predicted to have antibacterial activity. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of binahong extract as an antibacterial against Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. Methods: This experimental research tested binahong extract for inhibiting Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria by using the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion test. The research was carried out at The Health Laboratory Hall of Palembang. Binahong ethanol extract was obtained by extraction. The binahong ethanol extract was divided into three types of concentration: 50%, 75%, and 100%. The positive control in the study was gentamicin disc, and the negative control was dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The parameter measured for the diffusion test was the diameter of the inhibition zone (mm). Each treatment consisted of 5 repetitions. The data was analyzed with one way anova test. Results: The results showed that binahong extract shows antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa with a significance value of p < 0.05. This shows that there are significant differences between the concentration variations tested for inhibiting bacterial growth. Through post-hoc tests, the extract groups have significant differences with the positive control and the highest mean is the 100% extract group. Conclusion: Binahong extract has antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Binahong extract with a concentration of 100% is the best concentration for inhibiting Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria. Keywords: binahong extract, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, inhibition zone
