EFEKTIVITAS ANTIFUNGAL EKSTRAK ETANOL DAUN NANAS (ANANAS COSMOSUS) KOTA PRABUMULIH TERHADAP CANDIDA ALBICANS
Background: Candidiasis is an opportunistic fungal infection caused by Candida sp. Around 85-95% of oral candidiasis infections are caused by Candida albicans. Long-term use of antifungal drugs can cause side effects, so alternative therapy using herbal ingredients is needed. Pineapple leaves are one of the lavishly organic waste materials that contain phenolic compounds with antimicrobial properties. Therefore, pineapple leaves are used as an alternative herbal ingredient for oral candidiasis therapy. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in experimental laboratory in vitro using the well diffusion method consisting of six groups, such as Ananas cosmosus leaf with 12,5%, 25%, 50%, 100% concentration, nystatin as a positive control, and distilled water as a negative control. Results: Inhibtion test showed that only nystatin was effective in inhibiting Candida albicans with an average inhibition zone value of 8,7 mm. Conclusion: The ethanol extract of Ananas cosmosus leaf has no antifungal effect against Candida albicans.
