Background: Hyposalivation have negative effects on oral health, such as increasing the risk of dental caries. Therefore, salivary flow rate needs to be increased using auditory stimuli such as music. Classical music is reported can increase salivary flow rate because of its calm and relaxing tones. Gamelan music is a traditional music originating from Indonesia, known for its slow harmony, synchronized tones, and low pitch. However, its impact on salivary flow rate has not been studied. This research aims to compare the effects of classical music and gamelan music on salivary flow rate. Method: This study used a pre-experimental design with a post-test only approach involving 20 subjects. Saliva was collected before listening to music using the spitting method for 5 minutes. Subjects were exposed to classical music and gamelan music stimuli for 10 minutes each, and saliva were collected again. The collected saliva was recorded as the salivary flow rate in g/minute. Data were analyzed using Repeated Measures ANOVA and Pairwise Comparison. Results: The result showed that the average salivary flow rate after listening to both classical music and gamelan music was higher compared to before listening to music (p0.05). Conclusion : Gamelan music can increase saliva flow rate just as good as classical music.
