UJI DAYA HAMBAT DAN DAYA BUNUH GELATIN KULIT IKAN PATIN (PANGASIUS SP.) (STUDI IN VITRO TERHADAP CANDIDA ALBICANS)
Background: Candida albicans is normal flora in oral cavity but can cause infection oral candidiasis due to several conditions that disrupt the immune system. Side effects and resistance to antifungal drugs makes alternatives are needed. Catfish is the most fish commonly found in South Sumatra and has potential as an alternative treatment for oral candidiasis because of its high amino acid content. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine minimum inhibition and fungicidal concentration of gelatin skin catfish against Candida albicans. Method: This research was an experimental laboratory in vitro with post test only control group design. Patin fish skin gelatin extracted using acetic acid followed by protease enzymes, then made to concentrations of 0,25%, 0,75%, 1,25%, and 1,75%. Using a positive control of nystatin and a negative control of distilled water. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) test uses tube dilution method, the Minimum Fungicidal Concentration (MFC) test uses pour plate method, and the inhibition zone test uses disc diffusion method. MFC was analyzed using the non-parametric kruskall-wallis test and inhibition zone using one way ANOVA, then both were tested post hoc. Results: The largest zone of inhibition was at a concentration of 1,75% (kruskall-wallis and post hoc p < 0.05) and no Candida albicans colonies were found at concentrations of 0,75%, 1,25%, and 1,75% (one way ANOVA p < 0.05 and post hoc p > 0.05). Conclusion: Catfish (Pangasius sp.) skin gelatin can inhibit and kill Candida albicans.
