PENGARUH INDEKS MASSA TUBUH IBU TERHADAP KADAR LEMAK ASI PERAH
Background: Breast milk has many benefits for infants because it contains macronutrients (carbohydrate, fat, and protein) and micronutrients (vitamin and mineral). Breast milk nutritional composition is suited for infants. Fat is one of the macronutrients in breast milk, and its level is influenced by many factors such as the stage of breast milk, day time and evening, hindmilk and foremilk, duration of breast suction, maternal diet, and maternal BMI. Changes in the fat components of breast milk may lead to the incidence of obesity and metabolic diseases in future infants. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effect of maternal BMI in fat content of breast milk. Method: This study used an analytical observational research with a cross sectional design conducted in May-November 2023 at Laboratory of Basic Medical Chemistry, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya. There were 63 breastfeeding mothers in Palembang City consisting of 30 breastfeeding mothers with normal BMI and 33 breastfeeding mothers with obese BMI. Fat content was measured using the GPO-PAP method. Obtained data were analyzed by Independent T-test. Results: The average fat content of breast milk from mothers with normal BMI is 3786.6667 ± 743.2184 mg/dL, while from mothers with overweight and obese BMI is 4339.2103 ± 958.0281 mg/dL. Based on the Independent T-test, there was a significant difference between the fat content of breast milk from normal BMI mothers and breast milk from obese BMI mothers with p=0.014 (p
