This research is a study that aims to analyze the scientific literacy abilities of class XI IPA high school students in chemistry learning, especially in the matter of buffer solutions. This research was carried out using qualitative methods where students were not given special treatment, the research was carried out by observing learning in class, filling out questions and questionnaires by students, interviewing teachers and interviewing students. Based on the results of the questions done by students of class XI IPA 5 at SMA Negeri 1 Indralaya, it was found that the average scientific literacy ability of students was 46,34% in the "low" category. Based on the results of questionnaires, observations and interviews with teachers and students, it was found that several factors influenced students' scientific literacy abilities, namely internal factors in the form of interest in learning, learning motivation, study preparation, study habits of the students themselves as well as from external factors in the form of teachers, learning resources, classroom conditions, learning facilities and parental guidance.
