How to Build a Puppy : Into a Healthy Adult Dog
The anatomy that is covered explains how everything fits together to form a functional moving structure, and how everything is interdependent. This fundamental knowledge is, I believe, vital to understanding how the body works. Then the activity and home advice becomes more logical and easier to interpret, and therefore implement, using foundation knowledge, not just a tick box.By explaining basic functional anatomy, it also becomes clear how the body parts cannot be considered in isolation. The dog’s body operates as one static but also kinetic structure. All the working parts rely on the other working parts to form a healthy structure; it is not just the skeleton that holds us together, but the sum of all the working parts that are involved with locomotion that maintains our body’s integrity. When our body’s locomotion systems are working together, the body works in true synergy. However, if the balance is not right, then the whole body will not function at its optimum and will start to adapt and alter its posture and loading. Slowly and insidiously, compensating and adapting until its ‘weakest link’ finally gives way. This book was structured to make sense about why we need to help our puppies. It explains how a dog is built and how those working parts fit together. Then, once that is clearer, how we can get those working parts activated and functioning for our puppy. It is then followed by suggestions of exercises and activities for your puppy and a programme that you can follow to help them build good foundations. Like all good structures, it is all about the good foundations. It is hoped that having this understanding of how your puppy is put together, the programme will make more sense and give enough information so that you will feel confident to make adaptations and integrate these activities into your normal life. Most importantly, though, is to understand why some of the exercise routines and activities that have become almost ‘traditional’ are in fact incredibly damaging for our dogs.
