ANALISIS KONSENTRASI BAKTERI PENGURAI AMONIA PADA AIR DI PERAIRAN MUARA SUNGAI MUSI, SUMATERA SELATAN
The community and industrial activities such as mining, agriculture, plantations, and natural activities that directly or indirectly enter the waters of the Musi River can result in river pollution, such as the inclusion of waste, including ammonia. The existence of ammonia that exceeds the specified quality standard value can disrupt the ecosystem in the waters and the living creatures around it. High ammonia levels are toxic to all organisms. Nature can also carry out natural waste treatment by utilizing microbes for organic substance decomposition involving aerobic bacteria. This study aims to determine the concentration of bacteria that can decompose ammonia in the Musi River Estuary and determine the relationship of physico-chemical parameters toward those ammonia-decomposing bacteria. The results of this study showed that the AOB density in the waters ranged from 0.5 x 104 – 110 x 104 cells/mL, where station 1 had the highest AOB density value in the south of Payung Island. This is also in line with the high value of ammonia obtained at station 1 of 0.082 mg/L. Station 2 had the lowest AOB density value located in Tanjung Carat. The high density of AOB in waters was also due to the high concentration of ammonia. Physico-chemical parameters in the waters affected the AOB density value in the Musi River estuary waters, especially the ammonia, dissolved oxygen, salinity, and pH values.
