Research on the design characteristics of small scale fisheries vessels was conducted in Sungsang Village, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province, December 2022 – January 2023. The research method used was the survey method, taking direct measurements of the main dimensions of the dominant fishing vessels namely motor boats (pompong) and outboard motor boats (Jol). Processing of ship design using maxsurf and autocad software as well as calculation of ship shape and displacement coefficients. The results of the research are design lines plan consisting of body plan, profile plan and half breadth plan and general arrangement, shape and displacement coefficient of the ship. Characteristics of the shape of the ship's bow from the body plan and half breadth plan are V-shaped (taper), the shape of the ship's hull is U Bottom for motor boats and Round Flat Bottom for jol. The general arrangement of motor boats is more complex than jol. The size of the motor boats is bigger and the cruising area is wider and the bottom of the ship is curved, the boat is slim, the ship's Cb value = 0.57, the ship's stability is better and the type of fishing gear is static gear and towed/dragged gear. Joel boats are smaller in size, the cruising area is narrower and the bottom shape of the boat is flatter, the ship's Cb value = 0.43 - 0.50, the boat is slimmer and the ship's speed can increase and the fishing gear is static gear only.
