KEMAMPUAN TANAMAN TANJUNG ( Mimusops elengi L.) DALAM MENYERAP KARBON SEBAGAI UPAYA DARI MITIGASI GAS RUMAH KACA DI KOTA PALEMBANG
Palembang City is a growing city, so there is a lot of increased activity in the city. One of the centers of community activity is the road, because roads connect land transportation, causing pollution. Jalan Demang Lebar Daun is one of the streets in the city of Palembang which is busy with activity because it is in the middle of the city. Human activity on the road can increase the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) released into the atmosphere. Pollution that increases in the form of carbon gas and PM10 value. PM10 is a heterogeneous mixture of complex smoke, dust, salts, acids, soot and metals. Increased carbon emissions in the air can increase the value of tree biomass and carbon stocks. Carbon in the air is absorbed through the leaves, stomata to be precise. Stomata performance is affected by air conditions. The higher the PM10, the more dust in the air causing the stomata on the leaves to not work properly because they are covered with dust. One of the many plants found on Jalan Demang Lebar Daun is the Tanjung Tree (Mimusops elengi L.). This research was conducted from July 2022 to January 2023 located on Jalan Demang Lebar Daun in Palembang City. Determining the research location segment was carried out by directly observing locations where there were many cape trees at one point. Observation of PM10 values and calculation of carbon stocks was carried out in 4 predetermined segments and for leaf stomata morphology observations were carried out in 5 locations 4 in segments and 1 in the control location of Indralaya Campus, samples were taken with 5 replicates at each location. Observations of carbon stocks were taken from 3 trees in each segment. Observations of stomata were carried out at the Physiology and Development Laboratory, Department of Biology, FMIPA, Sriwijaya University. Based on the research, the PM10 values measured on Jalan Demang Lebar Daun ranged from 3.27-6.42 mg/m3, the number of stomata ranged from 336-896 cells and the stomata density ranged from 1,712.10-4,565.61 cells/mm and the Biomass Value of Tanjung trees ranges from 0.535-1.789 kg/tree and carbon stock values range from 0.2679-0.8946 kg/tree. The highest PM10 value was in segment 2 with a value of 6.42 mg/m3, while the smallest value was in segment 3 with a value of 3.27 mg/m3. The largest number of stomata and stomatal density were observed at the control location, which was at the Indralaya Sriwijaya University Campus. The highest value of biomass and carbon stock is in segment 1 while the smallest is in segment 3.
