ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ERRORS IN WRITING IN-TEXT CITATIONS AND REFERENCES AT THE ENGLISH EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM OF SRIWIJAYA UNIVERSITY
This study aimed to find out the errors and percentages errors made by the seventh semester students the English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Sriwijaya University in referencing (in-text citation and reference list) based on APA 7th style at the English Education Study Program of Sriwijaya University. The research respondent of this study was 7th semester students of English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Sriwijaya University consisting of 40 students. The writer adopted the theory Miles, Huberman’s and Sabana (2014) that recommends using used codes to present the data. Writing test was used to see the errors and the percentages made by seventh semester students and knowledge in writing academic article questionnaire was used to support persentages results. It has been found that in part of citation, the most significant errors were in writing secondary citation and in writing the name of the author. While in reference list the most significant errors was errors in italic. The result from questionnaire can be taken that seventh semester students were knowledgeable, but most of them still have difficulties in writing article and that is to be the big reason for percentages errors made by seventh semester students most significant in poor criteria (37,5%). From the research. It can be concluded that the role of consistent use of referencing should be enacted in university in order to avoid the inconsistency in writing.
