FORMULASI DAN UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIERITEMA GEL TABIR SURYA EKSTRAK ETIL ASETAT DAUN SUKUN (ARTOCARPUS ALTILIS (PARK.) FOSBERG) DENGAN PEMBAWA HPMC
Breadfruit leaves (Artocarpus altilis (Park.) Fosberg) are reported to contain flavonoids which have activity as photoprotective agents due to their ability to absorb UV light. This study aims to determine the effect of various extracts on the effect of the anti-erythema activity test of sunscreen gel with HPMC carrier. Sunscreen gels were made with ethyl acetate extract of breadfruit leaves using HPMC as a gelling agent, each gel formula containing extracts of 2% (F1), 4% (F2) and 6% (F3). The sunscreen gel preparation was subjected to physical evaluation and stability testing. All gel formulas made comply with the gel evaluation requirements and are stable. The SPF value of sunscreen gel and 2% viscous extract was measured in-vitro using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, the SPF value of 2% extract, F1, F2, and F3 was 7.26; 8.08; 10.17; and 12.7 which belongs to the SPF category with low protection. In-vivo testing used 15 rats which were divided into 5 groups, negative control (F0), positive (F+) and groups F1, F2, and F3 which were irradiated with a UV-B exoterra lamp for 72 hours. The test results on rats showed that edema and erythema only appeared in F0 whereas in F1, F2, F3 and F+ no edema and erythema were found after irradiation. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the use of 2%, 4% and 6% concentrations of breadfruit leaf ethyl acetate extract showed that there was no erythema and edema after treatment for 72 hours, which indicates that the extract can provide protection to rat skin from exposure to UV light and can be used as sunscreen.
