Industri pembuatan tempe menghasilkan limbah cair yang jika langsung dibuang ke perairan dapat menurunkan daya dukung lingkungan. Suatu metode alternatif yang dapat digunakan untuk mengatasi permasalah limbah cair tempe ini adalah dengan menggunakan metode elektrokoagulasi. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menentukan pengaruh kuat arus dan waktu proses elektrokoagulasi terhadap kualitas limbah cair tempe dengan mengukur nilai pH, TSS, TDS, dan COD. Kuat arus pada power supply divariasikan menjadi 30, 40, 50, 60 ampere dan waktu proses elektrokoagulasi divariasikan menjadi 60, 90, 120, dan 150 menit. Proses elektrokagulasi pada penelitian ini menggunakan elektroda alumunium. Analisis nilai pH menggunakan pH meter, analisis nilai TSS dan TDS dilakukan dengan metode gravimetri dan analisis COD dilakukan dengan metode spektrofotometri UV-VIS menggunakan digestion solution, asam sulfat, dan larutan standar kalium hidrogen ftalat (C8H5KO4). Hasil analisa keragaman menggunakan ANOVA menunjukkan bahwa kuat arus dan waktu proses elektrokoagulasi sangat berpengaruh nyata terhadap peningkatan pH dan penurunan nilai TSS, TDS, COD. Kualitas terbaik limbah cair tempe dihasilkan pada kuat arus 60 ampere dan waktu proses elektrokoagulasi 150 menit dengan nilai pH 8,3 dan efisiensi penurunan kadar TSS, TDS, COD secara berturut-turut sebesar 94,56 %; 92,42 %; 90,71 %. Uji statistika BNJ pada taraf 5% memberikan hasil yang berbeda secara signifikan. The tempeh manufacturing industry produces liquid waste which directly disposed into waters can reduce the carrying capacity of the environment. An alternative method that can be used to solve the problem of tempeh liquid waste is the electrocoagulation. This research is to determine the effect of strong currents and time of the electrocoagulation process on the quality of tempe liquid waste by measuring pH, TSS, TDS, and COD. The electrocoagulation process in this research using aluminium electrodes. The strong currents in the power supply was varied to 30, 40, 50, 60 amperes and the electrocoagulation process time was varied to 60, 90, 120, and 150 minutes. Analysis of pH value using a pH meter, analysis of TSS and TDS value using the gravimetric method and COD analysis was using the UV-VIS spectrophotometric method which needed digestion solution, sulfuric acid, and a standard solution of potassium hydrogen phthalate (C8H5KO4). The diversity analysis of ANOVA showed that the strong currents and time of the electrocoagulation process have a significant effect on increasing pH and decreasing TSS, TDS and COD. The highest quality of tempeh liquid waste is produced at a strong currents of 60 ampere and an electrocoagulation process time of 150 minute with a pH 8,3 and an efficiency on decreasing TSS, TDS, COD are 94,56%; 92,42%; 90,71%. The BNJ statistical 5% test gives significantly different result.
