PENGARUH WAKTU KALSINASI TERHADAP KARAKTER POROUS SILIKA CERIUM SULFAT DENGAN TEMPLATE KHFTALAT DAN APLIKASINYA UNTUK MENSINTESIS DIISOPROPIL ETER
Porous silica is referred to as a chemically and thermally stable material with uniform pore size. Metal cerium from cerium sulfate metal salt is impregnated into silica, with the addition of sulfuric acid to increase its solubility. In this study, Ce(SO4)2-SiO2 with KHPhthalate template was used as a catalyst synthesized by calcination, impregnation and hydrothermal methods, and its application in isopropyl alcohol to diisopropyl ether. The synthesized catalysts were then characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), FT-IR spectrophotometer and acidity analysis and GC-MS analysis for the application product. Characterization of the Ce(SO4)2-SiO2 catalyst at a variation of calcination time of 1 hour, 3 hours and 5 hours using XRD showed diffractograms with 2θ angles of 22.19°; 21.5° and 21.14° which showed compounds containing silica (SiO2). The FT-IR spectra showed the presence of -OH groups from Si-OH (stretching vibrations and bending vibrations) at wave numbers 3500-1600 cm-1, Si-O- groups from Si-O-Si (asymmetric stretching vibrations and symmetry stretching vibrations) at 1110-800 cm-1, and Si-O-Si bending vibrations at 442-470 cm-1. Acidity analysis resulted in the largest catalyst acidity value in the 5-hour calcination time variation, namely, 1.183 mmol/g in ammonia adsorption and 0.226 mmol/g in pyridine adsorption. The reverse titration method before and after application showed the largest acidity values of 2.482 mmol/g and 1.213 mmol/g. The largest % conversion, % selectivity and % yield values were 45.8%, 76.4% and 32.2%
