KARAKTERISTIK TIGA GALUR JAGUNG EFISIEN HARA HASIL PERSILANGAN DENGAN METODE POLYCROSS DAN EFEK XENIA PADA BIJI
The objectives were to identify the characteristics of three nutrient efficient maize lines crossed by Polycross Method and to identify the characteristics of maize seed caused by xenia effect through polycross method compared with the results of selfing. This research was conducted on February to June 2013 at the Experimental Field of Department Agronomy, Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University, Inderalaya. The research used Randomized Latin Square Design (RLSD) with six replications and three treatments. The treatments were three efficient nutrient maize lines, Bisma41 (B41), Sukmaraga201 (S201), and Lamuru 164 (L164). The results showed that three nutrient efficient maize lines significantly affect the female flower emergence. B41 had the highest plant height, ear diameter, dry ear weight, seed weight, weight of 100 seeds, number of ear rows, flower emergence, and physiological maturity. S201 had the highest ear length, and number of seed row. L164 had the highest leaf chlorophyll, number of ear seed, and protein concentration. The results of this research also showed that xenia effects through polycross displayed on the characteristics of seed hardness, seed color, and seed type. Ali of seed from the lines parents were considered had hard seed with orange color and flint type. The lines characteristics in this experiment had hard and medium seeds with orange, yellow, and white color, then had floury and flint types. The highest difference characteristics seed from its parent was shown by S201 for seed hardness, B41 and L164 for seed color, B41 for seed type.
