SEGREGASI PERMUKIMAN ETNIS TIONGHOA DI KAMPUNG KAPITAN KOTA PALEMBANG
This research discusses the process of forming Chinese ethnic settlement segregation in Kapitan Village, Palembang City, and the factors that cause the Chinese ethnic community to continue residing in Kapitan Village, Palembang City, and maintain this settlement. The research method used in this research was a descriptive qualitative research method with a case study research strategy. This research used Griffith Taylor's Settlement Development Theory and the concept of settlement development factors according to Sumaatmadja in 1993. Data for this research were obtained through interviews with 16 informants, observations, documentation, and literature review. The research results explain that the settlement of the Chinese ethnic community began at the time of the fall of the Srivijaya Kingdom or when Palembang City experienced a power vacuum that was used by the Chinese kingdom to establish a trading institution in the Kapitan Village of Palembang City. As a result, many Chinese ethnic individuals came and settled in the area of the Kapitan Village of Palembang City. The research results also explain that there are factors that cause the Chinese ethnic community to continue residing in the Kapitan Village of Palembang City and maintain this settlement. One of these factors is the heritage houses that have been passed down through generations and are used as residences by several generations until today. These heritage houses cannot be sold because ownership of the houses is communal, so dividing the proceeds from selling them would be difficult. Keywords: Segregation of Ethnic Settlements, Ethnic Chinese, Kampung Kapitan.
