This research wants to see the extent of the role of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI-LBH) Palembang in providing free legal aid to people who seek justice in a poor condition. The purpose of this study is to see how the process of providing legal aid to the underprivileged and the sources of funds obtained by the Palembang Legal Aid Institute in providing legal assistance to the poor. This study uses David Berry's Role theory The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a case study research strategy. The data collection used in this study was non-participant observation, in-depth interviews with 9 (nine) informants and documentation in the form of photos with several informants. The results of this study show that the role of legal aid institutions in Palembang in providing free legal assistance is very helpful for people seeking justice, and the process of providing legal aid from the beginning to the end includes the following: a. Written application, b. Data selection, and c. Case Assistance. The process does not make it difficult for people who wish to seek legal assistance. Funds obtained for the legal aid program came from cooperation between YLBHI-LBH Palembang and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Provisional Government of South Sumatra, and the City Government of Palembang. With the available funds, the Palembang Legal Aid Institute allocates these funds appropriately, even though these funds are sometimes not in accordance with requests for legal assistance from the community, which limits the provision of assistance annually.
