The discourse of radicalism and extremism can easily hack all religions in Indonesia, so a counter-discourse through religious moderation is needed. The religious moderation movement is seen as the right step to reduce the existence of radicalism and extremism. New social movements, such as the religious moderation movement, have now entered a new stage that is more networked due to the rapid development of information and communication technology. Using Manuel Castells' new networked social movement as an analytical tool, this research aims to explore how the religious moderation movement on the @toleransi.id Instagram account is described and characterised, and what obstacles exist. This research uses a descriptive qualitative content analysis method supported by a digital ethnography strategy to explore meanings and information based on symbols and rhetorical means from various moderation content on the @toleransi.id Instagram account. The research data collection method used observation and documentation with data analysis techniques from Miles, Huberman and Saladana (2014). The results showed that the religious moderation movement on the @toleransi.id Instagram account has its own picture, features and obstacles. These characteristics and features can be seen from the two-space movement, the use of hashtag attributes as a means of virality, the polyvocality movement, the persuasive desire, and the presence of self-limitation of tolerance. Meanwhile, the barriers consist of semantic barriers and behavioural barriers.
