This study aims to describe the character education values in the novel Kado Terbaik by J.S. Khairen and to describe the implications of the research results for Indonesian language learning in junior and senior high schools. The method is descriptive qualitative with content analysis technique. The source of data used is the novel Kado Terbaik by J.S. Khairen. The data in this study are quotes or dialogs that contain character education values in the novel Kado Terbaik by J.S. Khairen. The results showed that there are eighteen character education values contained in the Kado Terbaik novel, namely 1) religious, 2) honest, 3) tolerance, 4) discipline, 5) hard work 6) creative, 7) independent, 8) democratic, 9) curiosity, 10) national enthusiasm, 11) love for the country, 12) respect for achievement, 13) friendly/communicative, 14) peace-loving, 15) fond of reading, 16) environmental care, 17) social care, and 18) responsibility. Eighteen types of values represented in 69 data found. This research can be implied in the learning of the Indonesian language in junior high school and senior high school. At the junior high school level, this research has implications on learning Indonesian language in class VIII KD 3.12 namely examining the structure and language of review texts (films, short stories, poems, novels, regional artworks) that are listened to and read and KD 4.12 namely presenting responses about the quality of works (films, short stories, poems, novels, and regional artworks) in the form of review texts orally and in writing by paying attention to the structure of linguistic elements or oral aspects. Furthermore, in SMA, it has implications for KD 3.9 namely analyzing the content and grammaticality of novels and KD 4.9 namely designing novels or novelettes by paying attention to content and grammaticality both orally and in writing.
