South Sumatra Province is one of the provinces in Indonesia that uses forestry products, especially wood, to support the local community's economy. One of the products derived from processed wood is fibreboard. PT. Sumatra Prima Fibreboard is one of the largest companies that produce fibreboard products in Indonesia, 65%-70% of the company's products are exported to various countries. Then, there was an increase in the number of exports of fibreboard products in South Sumatra both in terms of value and volume. The researcher uses the upgrading theory in the Global Value Chain with four indicator such as process upgrading, product upgrading, functional upgrading, and intersectoral upgrading to help analyze the strategies carried out by the company to increase the competitiveness of fibreboard products. Then, this research uses qualitative research methods. The data used by the author is collected through primary data obtained through interviews and secondary data obtained from various trusted written sources. This research will explain how PT. Sumatra Prima Fibreboard uses an upgrading strategy in order to increase the export competitiveness of fibreboard products from South Sumatra
