PEMBERIAN PERAWATAN MULUT (ORAL HYGIENE) UNTUK PENCEGAHAN VENTILATOR ASSOCIATED PNEUMONIA (VAP)
The number of critical patients on mechanical ventilators occupies two-thirds of the total patients treated in the PICU room. This is a high risk factor for VAP. VAP (Ventilator Associated Pneumonia) is a complication in patients who are installed on a mechanical ventilator, generally occurring 48 hours after intubation. One of the appropriate actions to prevent VAP is oral hygiene using chlorhexidine solution, and the CPIS sheet is used to assess the patient's condition. Purpose: Describe the implementation of nursing care for patients with ventilators who are at risk of VAP and an evidence based study in the PICU room at RSUP dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. Method: Using a qualitative research method, case study approach. Results: Based on the results of the assessment of the three managed patients, nursing problems emerged, namely impaired spontaneous ventilation, impaired gas exchange, impaired physical mobility, risk of aspiration, risk of infection and risk of falls. After implementing nursing for three days, the results were obtained, three nursing problems were resolved and three nursing problems were partially resolved. Also, after implementing oral hygiene using chlorhexidine solution, the patient's CPIS score decreased. This proves that this implementation is effective in preventing VAP. Conclusion: Providing oral hygiene using chlorhexidine solution to patients who are installed on a mechanical ventilator is effective for preventing Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP) in the PICU Room at dr. Mohammad Hoesin Hospital, Palembang. Keywords: Mechanical Ventilator, Oral Hygiene, Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP), Chlorhexidine.
