PT. Bukit Asam, Tbk. is a State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) which is engaged in the coal mining industry located in Tanjung Enim, South Sumatra, that owns a Mining Business Permit (IUP) covering an area of 40,347 Ha. At the mining site in Pit Townsite Basecamp in April 2022, there was a target of producing coal for 350,000 tons/month, however the planned production target was not achieved. The obtained coal was only 327,623 tons/month or around 93%. Thus, an evaluation was necessarily to be done toward the performance of the loading and transporting equipment that were used on coal excavation at the mining site in Pit Townsite Basecamp, Air Laya Mining. This study aims to analyze the achievement of coal production, the obstacles that affect the achievement of coal mining production, as well as to evaluate the efforts in increasing coal mining production. The results of this study showed that the actual productivity of the excavator Backhoe Volvo ED480DL and the transporting equipment dump truck Mitsubishi FN 62 were 423.81 tons/hour and 31.63 tons/hour with the achievement level of coal production in the Pit Townsite Basecamp of only 93%. The main factor influencing the performance of the loading and transporting equipment was the low work efficiency. There were 2 types of obstacles that caused the low work efficiency. The long delay caused the effective working time to be low, that was only 383.6 hours, with a work efficiency of 58%. Therefore, a prevention was needed by eliminating or minimizing obstacles that can be avoided, such as being late after taking some rest, damaged mine road, and refueling. Thus, the time for effective work increases to 416.24 hours with the work efficiency of 63%.
