Background: Pleural effusion is a condition that can cause disturbances in the respiratory system, so that the body's oxygenation needs cannot be met. One of the clinical manifestations that appear in pleural effusion is an ineffective breathing pattern. Ineffective breathing pattern is a nursing problem that indicates a life-threatening disturbance of oxygenation needs. Purpose: Writing this scientific paper aims to describe the practice of nursing care in patients with pleural effusion and implementing nursing interventions in accordance with evidence-based studies at RSUP Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang Method: The method used in writing scientific papers is a qualitative research using a case study approach by providing nursing care to three pleural effusion patients based on Indonesian nursing standards (SDKI, SIKI, dan SLKI) Results: Based on the results of the case study, it was found that the three patients being managed had the same nursing problem, namely ineffective breathing pattern. The intervention given in this case study was by administering inhalation therapy with eucalyptus oil for 3 consecutive days and there was an improvement in breathing pattern with marked improvement in respiratory frequency, reduced use of accessory muscles in the three managed cases. Conclusion: Based on evidence-based nursing actions that can be carried out in patients with pleural effusion with ineffective breathing pattern problems, eucalyptus oil vapor inhalation therapy can be given as an additional intervention in providing nursing care. Eucalyptus oil vapor inhalation therapy helps breathing patterns in patients with pleural effusion
