HUBUNGAN PERILAKU MENSTRUAL HYGIENE SAAT MENSTRUASI DENGAN TIMBULNYA KELUHAN PRURITUS VULVAE PADA REMAJA
Inadequate menstrual hygiene behavior can cause disorders in the genital area, including pruritus vulvae. Research results from the Indonesian Ministry of Health presented that 5.2 million teenage girls in Indonesia experience complaints of pruritus vulvae due to not keeping the genital area clean during menstruation. This research intended to determine the relationship between menstrual hygiene behavior during menstruation and the emergence of complaints of pruritus vulvae in adolescents. This research is an analytical survey that applied a Cross-Sectional approach in which this study’s population is female students at SMPN 5 Madang Suku I, totaling 125 female students. The sampling technique was done by a purposive sampling technique with a sample size of 90 respondents. Data collection was completed by questionnaire. More than half of the respondents, namely 52 (57.8%), already have adequate menstrual hygiene behavior, and less than half of the respondents, namely 41 (45.6%), experienced mild symptoms of pruritus vulvae. The data analysis results executed with the Somers Gamma test showed that there was no significant correlation between menstrual hygiene behavior during menstruation and the occurrence of complaints of pruritus vulvae (p-value = 0.443 > 0.05). The study’s results showed that respondents who had suitable and sufficient menstrual hygiene behavior still experienced symptoms of pruritus vulvae, so further research needs to be carried out to examine other factors that can cause pruritus vulvae.
