Palembang City is one of the Metropolitan cities in Indonesia that has a network of rivers that can be traversed by large ships throughout the year, namely the Musi River and its tributary network. Many people in Palembang City live in areas adjacent to rivers, those who live in those areas have access to various public transportation options, one of which is river transportation. River transportation in Palembang City has several advantages, including the network that is available, free from congestion, energy efficient and more environmentally friendly. The purpose of this study is to determine the characteristics of river transportation users living in riverside residential areas of Palembang city from socioeconomic characteristics, travel characteristics, and knowing the factors that influence it, analysis was also carried out in an effort to determine the probability of choosing river transportation modes when compared to online public transportation. The study was conducted by distributing questionnaires using the Stated Preference technique to 100 residents living in the riverside area of Palembang. From the results of research using Binary Logit modeling shows that the average probability of choosing river transportation is 36% and 64% for online taxi transportation with the most significant influencing factor being the travel time factor
