PENGARUH VARIASI TEMPERATUR PADA PROSES QUENCHING DAN TEMPERING TERHADAP KEKUATAN TARIK DAN KEKERASAN PADA BAJA ASSAB 709M
ASSAB 709M steel is a low alloy steel used for machining purposes and also for tool steel. ASSAB 709M steel before being marketed has gone through a harden process to meet marketing standards, so it has good mechanical properties. Even though it has gone through a hardening process, ASSAB 709M steel can be further improved in its mechanical properties through a heat treatment process with an oil cooling medium. In this study, ASSAB 709 M steel will be quenched with temperature variations of 780˚C, 810˚C and 840˚C then continued with the tempering process with temperature variations of 300˚C, 500˚C, and 700˚C. This study aims to observe the effect of variations in the quenching and tempering processes on the tensile strength and hardness of ASSAB 709 M steel, as well as to observe the microstructure that occurs. Based on the data obtained from testing on each sample, it is known that the higher the quenching temperature followed by tempering at low temperatures will produce steel with a microstructure in the form of coarse martensite, so that the tensile strength and hardness of the steel will increase significantly.
