Indonesia is one of the countries with low interest in reading. Based on UNESCO data, interest in reading in Indonesia is only 0.001%, which means that only 1 person has an interest in reading out of 1000 people. From the survey results, it can be concluded that literacy culture in Indonesia is very lacking. According to the expert staff of the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri, 2019), Indonesia's literacy level is ranked 62nd out of 70 countries studied. Planning and designing the literacy center in the city of Palembang functions as a forum for promoting community activities related to literacy such as reading, writing, teaching and learning. The aim of this Literacy Center is to make Indonesia and Palembang in particular a leader in expanding and advancing literacy culture. The idea for designing this Literacy Center will be equipped with various other supporting facilities that will attract the attention and enthusiasm for reading and writing from children, students and the general public. The concept that will be applied to this design is modern expressionist because there are activities for children and adults that have different characters. This Literacy Center will also contain facilities such as a library, exhibition,Working space, and Café/restaurant. Therefore, it is hoped that the planning and design of the Literacy Center in Palembang City will be able to foster interest in reading and writing from an early age to adults, as well as being able to provide educational facilities, providing study spaces and recreation in the city of Palembang.
