PENGOLAHAN LIMBAH FLY ASH BATUBARA MENJADI SILIKA MENGGUNAKAN ASAM SITRAT MURNI DENGAN METODE X-RAY FLUORESCENCE DI PLTU PT BUKIT ASAM.
The combustion of coal produces two types of waste, namely light ash (Fly Ash) and heavy ash (Bottom Ash). Fly ash is the waste generated by the power plant, contributing to environmental pollution. The combined fly ash and bottom ash generated solely from the power plant in 2021 were estimated to reach 12 million tons, projected to increase to 16.2 million tons by 2027. This poses a problem as the reused amount of fly ash and bottom ash is very small, necessitating the storage and/or landfilling of the remaining waste. The objective of this research is to analyze the content of coal fly ash through X-Ray Fluorescence testing, evaluate the silica extraction results from fly ash using a solution of pure citric acid with solvent concentration parameters, and analyze the silica content of the extraction results using X-Ray Fluorescence testing. The Fly Ash sample was pre-tested using the XRF method, resulting in a silica content of 50.929%. When Fly Ash was mixed with Citric Acid, the produced silica/SiO2 content was 47.076%. The decrease in silica content is attributed to citric acid being a weak acid, which is less efficient in binding the silica present in coal fly ash.
