PENERAPAN AROMATERAPI CITRONELLA OIL PADA PASIEN GIZI BURUK UNTUK MENINGKATKAN NAFSU MAKAN PADA ANAK DI RUANGAN SELINCAH 1 RUANG INFEKSI RSUP DR. MOHAMMAD HOSEIN PALEMBANG
Background: Malnutrition in children has a negative impact on physical and mental growth, reducing body resistance. The problem that often arises is a decrease in appetite in children. The prevalence of malnutrition at Mohammad Hoesin Hospital in Palembang in the nutrition and metabolic disease division of KSM Child Health RSMH stated that in 2021 it was 58.62 percent while in 2022 it was 67.08 percent. One therapy to increase appetite in children is by providing aromatherapy, aromatherapy with citronella oil psychologically and physically through activation of the limbic system, giving a signal that the smell will be sent to the lateral olfactory area in the cerebral cortex and then sent to the limbic system. Objective: To describe the implementation of nursing care practices for children with malnutrition and to apply aromatherapy to increase children's appetite. Method: Qualitative descriptive with a case study approach on three child patients with malnutrition Results: The three child patients with Malnutrition had complaints of no appetite, weight loss, lethargy, weakness, impaired physical growth. The nursing problem that emerged and was felt by the three patients was the same, namely nutritional deficit. Nutrient deficit nursing interventions include monitoring food intake, monitoring body weight, monitoring laboratory test results, explaining the need for balanced nutrition to children, and recommending avoidance of unhealthy foods. The non-pharmacological action that can be given to the three patients is the application of aromatherapy to children. Conclusion: Non-pharmacological application of aromatherapy to children who are malnourished can increase the child's appetite.
